Worst Cooks In America Season 4 by Kyla Stan

Worst Cooks In America:

Food Network has hosted and created a wide variety of culinary creations, most of them including how-to shows by famous celebrity chefs, or culinary cook downs. This particular show has been aired for a while, and previously included celebrity chef Robert Irvine, who also hosts Restaurant Impossible. The base of this show starts off in a similar way that American Idol starts. People audition by bringing in food they created. The people who have created the worst possible cuisine are part of the show. Then the entree of the show starts. Celebrity chef Anne Burrell and Bobby Flay have separate teams, and each chef must teach their team a wide variety of culinary tricks including how to butcher and cook a chicken, making your own takeout and even how to fillet a fish. Slowly the teams will loose their members, two at a time, one from each team.
Recently, Bobby and Anne were teaching their "recruits" as they are called on the show, how to make cake! This was a very fun episode to watch. First, the chefs explained that they would not be using box cake, which is a simple way out of the real art form of making a cake. After the chefs explained some basic techniques such as temperature control, having the exact amount of ingredients and put the wet ingredients to the dry, the recruits were off on their own. Their challenge this week was to create a cake for surprise clients. The red team got a retired elderly woman, while the blue team got a birthday cake for two very rambunctious twin boys.
Carla and Bobby Flay
I must say, in no way am I what a chef would call a professional when it comes to cooking. However, I have taken a BOCES class on basic cooking (yeah, basic doesn't mean less or easier information) as well as growing up around my Grandma and her fantastic Puerto Rican and Cuban recipes. I do know and understand how to balance flavors, textures and understand basic cooking techniques. Some of my favorite things to make are Italian food, which my Italian/Irish boyfriend seems to think I make pretty well, and Puerto Rican and Cuban food as well, which my whole family loves. It is amazingly funny to watch these poor people cook! It just never dawned on me that for people, cooking really does come as a challenge. Carla of the blue team has been my favorite person ever to watch! She is spunky with attitude and flavor and is absolutely hysterical; boy does she have a crush on Bobby Flay. When she created her cake, she wasn't listening to what the chefs said which was use EXACT ingredients! Instead, she was correct with her dry ingredients, but chose to anything she wanted with the milk.
Unfortunately, I will not reveal who was eliminated, but this show keeps making me want to watch it again and again!
